While working for his MA Hons in French and Politics at
Edinburgh University, David simultaneously studied music with Ian Carr,
Tim Whitehead and John Paricelli. Professional since 16, he was Daily
Telegraph Young Jazz Musician 1995 (Best Band, Best Composition). David
has worked and recorded with many artists including Jean Toussaint, Norma
Winstone, Andy Sheppard, Julian Joseph, Courtney Pine and his own group,
One of the most dynamic and versatile jazz voices currently on the Britishscene,
Byron has performed with rap outfits such as The Roots, Digable Planets
and Us3. His trumpet has appeared alongside African pioneers such as Hugh
Masekela, Manu Dibango and Ammampondo. He has also worked with Lonnie
Liston Smith, Ronnie Laws and Chaka Khan. Byron is firmly rooted in the
jazz tradition, he has toured with David Murray, Andrew Hill and Butch
Morris, he has also performed with Ralph Moore, Billy Higgins, Eddie Henderson,
Wynton Marsalis, Herlin Riley and Freddie Hubbard. He has recorded with
George Benson, Brice Wassy, and has toured the world with Incognito.
Joined Jazz Warriors at 16 becoming youngest member, after returning from
a year of study at William Paterson College, New Jersey, USA (1991)studying
with Joe Lovano, Gary Smulyan and Steve Wilson. Joined Quite Sane, Louis
Moholo's groups and Afro Blok, after completing an honours degree in Performance
Arts at Middlesex University. Continued work with Tomorrow's Warriors.
Leader of the award winning group J-Life which played all over the world.
He has also worked with Dennis Brown, Gregory Issacs, Phoenix Dance and
in big bands of McCoy Tyner, Roy Ayers, Andrew Hill. He arranged and directed
for Hermeto Pascoal and Manu Dibango for their performance at the Barbican
Centre. He was also the leader and MD for 'Future Sounds of Jazz'
